In the summer of 2003, Pastor Mark Swee, was at a conference on "church planting" when God began to speak to him and give him a vision about beginning a new church. Up to that point, Pastor Mark had enjoyed 20 years as an Associate Pastor and had planned to continue in that fulfilling ministry role. As the vision for beginning a church plant became more clear, the mother church, First Assembly of God, and the South Dakota District officials agreed that southern Sioux Falls in Lincoln County was the perfect place.
Pastor Mark and his family were introduced as the pastors of the new church in November of 2003. From January, 2004 to April, 2004, informational and organizational meetings, along with prayer services were held. In late May, 2004, seventy people answered the call to help launch Crosswalk Community Church and were commissioned in a special farewell service.
From June, 2004, until December, 2005, the new congregation met in the Student Ministries Center of the host church while the new building was built on the 69th and Mogen property. During this "infancy period" the church was able to establish purpose, core values, personality and style, along with developing a mission statement. God continually had His blessing on the church throughout this time as lives were changed, miracles were realized, and relationships were strengthened. During this eighteen month period, the Crosswalk family more than doubled in size!
On December 18, 2005, Crosswalk held its first worship service in the new facility with 200 in attendance! To God be the glory! The Lord is building His church, and to this day Crosswalk continues to grow and flourish. From day one, the congregation of Crosswalk believed that God had a definite plan, and they were to be the surrendered willing vessels for Him to work through to accomplish His purpose.
The Crosswalk story does not end here, for daily we "stand at the crossroads and look for the good way, we walk in it and find rest for our souls." We eagerly anticipate all the marvelous things the Lord will do in the future and we invite you to come along on this journey with us at Crosswalk Community Church.
