God First - Live to Give

This past Sunday, we kicked off a new teaching series with a message titled “God First”. The big idea was “Who’s First” in your life? The question not only refers to “who do I surrender my life to”, but also, “who’s first concerning money and possessions in my life”? The reason I’m so passionate and excited for this series, is that when we put God first in our finances, it helps us in every area of life.
First of all, we saw in Exodus 13:1-2, 12-13 how the first-born must be sacrificed. God gave us His FIRST Son, Jesus, as the perfect Lamb of God to redeem us. He didn’t wait to give Him until we would change, believe or even accept Him as Savior. Instead, God gave Him first. Secondly, Exodus 23:19 and Proverbs 3:9-10 tell us about the “first fruits” and how they must be offered to God. When Israel captured the city of Jericho, but failed to bring all the silver and gold to God, He declared it cursed. Listen, you don’t want “cursed” money in your bank account. Lastly, we saw how God asks for the tithe to be given first. Realize that everytime you receive a paycheck, God is testing us to see if we will first give our tithe to Him.
I’m completely convinced that the principle of “giving to God first” works. This is why I’m asking you to join us in this journey every week. I realize that some people don’t care to hear messages concerning money; however remember there are over 500 Bible verses on prayer and faith, but over 2000 on money and possessions. Let’s learn and grow together to become followers of Christ that “LIVE TO GIVE”!
