I hope you have a child who is just like you!

“I hope you have a child who is just like you!”

Have you ever been told that by your parent? It never sounds like a complement at the time does it? Just the other day my husband and I were trying to get out of the door and my son Asher was trailing behind deep in conversation about something. I was getting so bent out of shape having to wait for him and Kolby looked over at me, smiled and said, “that’s you!” I have to admit, he is like me in a lot of ways and as I thought about it, I realized that sometimes the traits that frustrate me are the very thing God is going to use. They are a gift he placed in them and it is up to us to direct that gift. Believe it or not, even a strong will is put there by our Heavenly Father. It does not indicate that your child is evil or is rebellious. It does mean that he will probably get more spankings than his siblings.

Our kids want to lead and it is up to us as parents to raise them in the way that they should go (Proverbs 22:6) and to point that gift in the right direction! God desires to use our children and we need to seek him on how to direct them.

“Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate.” Psalms 127:3-5
